Celebration of the Trees

Delaware's annual "Celebration of the Trees" is held in downtown Delaware every year while the flowering crabapples are in bloom.

Delaware was named a Tree City USA upon state foresters' reccommendations. To qualify, a city must have a tree ordinance, a legal tree governing body, a comprehensive urban forestry program, an an observance of Arbor Day.

Trees are currently being planted along Delaware streets. This year the Shade Tree Commission will plant 215 trees, bringing the total number of shade trees planted to about 1,400 since the program began.
